In June, the Ridgewood Village Council passed a Single-Use Plastic Bag Reduction Ordinance which will take effect January 1, 2020. Stores in Ridgewood will no longer offer single use plastic bags at the checkout counter.

To summarize:
  • Stores and businesses may no longer provide single use plastic bags
  • Customers are encouraged to bring their own bags
  • Stores may provide paper bags. It is up to the individual store whether or not to charge for paper bags.
  • Stores may continue to provide single use plastic bags for fresh fruits, vegetables, meat, fish, etc.

Our neighbors in Glen Rock and Paramus have also passed such regulations, as have over 70 other municipalities in New Jersey.
